VISION

Stout’s History

    1983

    An entrepreneurial teenager, James Stout, started building 3 businesses focused on woodworking, landscape maintenance and snow removal.

  • A modern building on a grassy hill with snow-capped mountains in the background under an overcast sky.

    1988

    As a high school senior, James was named the State's Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

    1992

    James (and his brother John) founded Waterscape and became one of Utah's elite landscape contractor's, building a reputation for high-end water features and outdoor spaces.

    2006

    After years of building homes and industrial buildings as a sideline to landscape construction, James and John founded Stout Building Contractors with a focus on industrial concrete tilt-up construction.

  • 2009

    Stout adapted to a changing economy by diversifying and expanding it's magnitude of work, including its geographic footprint into the western United States.

    2014

    Stout has become one of the premier builders of charter schools in the State of Utah.

    2016

    Ownership transitioned from John Stout to Nate Lechtenberg, the Chief Operating Officer and lifelong employee of Waterscape and Stout, and Nate became an official partner with James.

    2018

    Stout built it's new headquarters in Bountiful, UT.  After building a strong out-of-state retail presence, Stout shifted focus to growing our presence in the Utah market.
