Precision, Innovation, and Purpose: The Story of the Nusano Radioisotope Project

At Stout, every project is an opportunity to raise the bar on quality and impact, but some projects mark a truly transformative step forward. The Nusano Radioisotope Pharmaceutical Production Facility in West Valley City is one of those projects. More than just a feat of precision engineering, this build reflects the intersection of innovation, community impact, and national importance.

Setting New Standards in Construction

Nusano required our team to pioneer solutions rarely attempted in commercial construction. With its advanced “floating” foundation, relying on nearly 700 deep auger piles and tolerating less than a quarter-inch of movement even during major earthquakes, the project redefined what is possible in high-performance, mission-critical facilities. Our team, along with key trade partners, developed new approaches for massive excavation, dual-shift operations, and unprecedented steel erection, all while keeping safety, quality, and precision as our top priorities.

Advancing American Science and Security

The Nusano facility is a game-changer for the United States. For the first time, America can domestically manufacture critical radioisotopes used in cancer therapies, aerospace, clean energy, and other advanced fields. By enabling production that was once only possible through imports, this project strengthens our national supply chains and advances the cause of self-sufficiency in life-saving technology.

Strengthening the Local Community

This project is also an investment in Utah’s future. From high-skilled job creation to public recognition for safety and innovation, the Nusano facility positions our region as a hub for medical, scientific, and technological progress. We are proud that this site will draw new talent, foster industry partnerships, and help Utah lead the way in next-generation life sciences and nuclear manufacturing.

Looking Forward

The Nusano facility represents what is possible when vision, expertise, and commitment align. We are honored to have helped bring this milestone project to life. It stands as a testament to the power of teamwork, innovation, and a belief that construction can help shape a healthier, stronger, and more self-reliant future for our nation and community.
